Overview
Live Time lets you record time as you work by running a timer, rather than entering the duration manually afterwards. The timer starts as soon as you open a Live Time record and keeps running until you save it.
You can have more than one Live Time record on the go, but only one timer runs at a time. Opening another Live Time record pauses the current one and starts the new one. Saved records appear in your Time Recording Calendar.
Who can do this
Any user who records time in OneLaw.
Before you start
- Have the Party and Matter you are recording against ready.
- Know the WIP Code for the work you are recording.
Steps
Open a Live Time record
- On the Home tab, in the WIP group, select Live Time.
- You can also select the Live Time button at the top of your Time Recording Calendar.
Result: A new Time Recording window opens and the timer starts immediately.
Note: While a Live Time timer is running, the Live Time button is highlighted red.
- On the Home tab, in the WIP group, select Live Time.
Keep working while the timer runs
- Select Hide to tuck the time record window behind the Time Recording Calendar so you can keep working in OneLaw. The timer keeps running while the record is hidden.
- While it is hidden, the record stays listed on the Live Time tab at the bottom of the Time Recording Calendar.
Result: The time record hides and the timer continues.
Switch between Live Time records (optional)
- If you open another Live Time record, the timer on the current record pauses automatically and the new record starts timing.
- To see your records, select the Live Time tab at the bottom of the Time Recording Calendar. The record that is currently timing shows a green pause symbol; paused records show a black play symbol.
- Select the play symbol next to a paused record to resume timing on it.
Result: The selected record resumes timing and any other running record pauses.
- Reopen and complete the time record
- On the Live Time tab, double-click the required record to bring its window back up. Opening the record resumes its timer and pauses any other running record.
- Ensure the Party and Matter, the WIP Code, and the file note for the work are entered.
Save the record
Select one of the following:
- Save to save the time record.
- Save + New to save the time record and start a new one.
- Save + Task to save the time record and create a task.
Result: The timer stops, the record is saved, and it appears in your Time Recording Calendar.
Result
The Live Time record is saved and appears in your Time Recording Calendar, with the duration captured by the timer. The timer stops when you save.
If you were running more than one Live Time record, the others stay paused on the Live Time tab until you resume or save them.
Note
If you reconfigure your screen layout and pin the Live Time areas to the side of the screen, they can sometimes fail to pop back out when selected. If this happens:
- Go to File > Support > Reset Views.
- Close OneLaw and reopen it for the change to take effect.
The Live Time button and tab then return to your Time Recording Calendar.
